The total forest area of Ukraine is 10.8 million hectares (15.9% of the entire territory). The most wood covered regions of Ukraine are: Carpathians (40%), Polesie (26%) and mountain regions of Crimea (32%).

By age, forest plantations are divided in this way: young - 32%; Middle-aged - 44%; Ripening - 13%; Mature - 11%.


Zhitomir region is the most wood covered and resourceful in terms of volumes of pine saw logs in Ukraine. Due to climatic conditions and soil structure, the pine from this region has comparatively high density and quality of wood structure.


Pine (p. sylvestris) is the most popular tree in Ukraine. Average height is 25-40 meters and diameter – 50-100cm, average age of pine growing equals 40-50 years.
